State House: District 40B
Early voting begins Friday, Feb. 21, in a special election for the Minnesota House 40B seat that will determine whether that chamber stays in Republican control or moves into a party tie.
The district includes areas of Roseville and Shoreview.
The special election was originally scheduled for January, but the Supreme Court canceled the election after ruling Walz didn't provide enough notice for potential candidates. Gov. Tim Walz rescheduled the election.
The vacancy in this seat was caused by the resignation of Representative-elect Curtis Johnson, effective Dec. 27, after a Ramsey County judge disqualified Johnson on residency grounds amid a challenge by his Republican opponent. Johnson said in a Facebook post that he would let the ruling stand despite his belief it was wrong.
