Got the strangest phone call tonight

strange only because I don't know how I got on this call list.

I missed the name of the group "Freedom" something so I knew right away it wasn't coming from my kind of people. Then they asked me if I planned to vote for Jeff Johnson or Tim Pawlenty in next week's primary. thinks I.

I decided to take advantage of the situation and said "After what Pawlenty did to the state last time he was governor and what Trump is doing to this country, I don't see how I'll ever be able to vote for a Republican again." (I voted for one once, long story, a lot of DFLers did in that particular race. )

After a moment of silence the caller snarled "Have a nice evening." at me and hung up.

In a grocery store parking lot.
His question was whether we both planned to vote in an upcoming GOP primary.
I calmly answered, “Young man, I would rather shit in my pants.”

He was still laughing ten seconds later as we walked away. Guess he figured a white guy in his 60s in South Carolina was a pretty certain bet to be a repub voter

I grew up in Aiken. My first summer job was packing peaches in Johnston for 70 cents an hour. Makes me itch just to think about it.
After that, I got summer jobs where I had to wear a tie and have access to air conditioning.

(1) To someday have enough money that it would be in my private personal interest to vote Republican; and
(2) When I have that much money, to have enough love of country to vote Democratic.

That usually ends the conversation.

I also would like an income that should make me a Republican but a conscience that prevents me from doing so.

and throwing thousands of children into cages, Jesus Fucking Christ", and I hung up.

That was how I handled my last couple of calls from a Republican greedbanger. Screaming.
