Lamar County Bond issue will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot

LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - The Lamar County School District is giving the $117 million Bond Referendum another shot.

In May, the district held a special election for county residents to vote ‘for’ or ‘against’ the bond issue, but it did not get approved.

Superintendent Dr. Steven Hampton feels the low voter turnout contributed to the bond issue not passing.

“No one we talked to denied that we needed two new high schools and a new middle school,” said Hampton. “Mainly, a couple of things that were mentioned is that people were not aware of the vote, and then also that it wasn’t in the regular polling places.”
