Missouri poll worker and volunteer safety considered as contentious election looms

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) - The FBI is investigating a series of suspicious packages recently sent to at least 15 state election offices.

The Missouri Secretary of State’s Office confirmed it received such a package “from an unknown source” but declined to comment further as the FBI investigation proceeds.

Though the sender’s motive is unclear, election officials at the state and local levels said attacks on election systems are typically rooted in mistrust of those systems or motivated by misinformation or disinformation.

Steve Korsmeyer, who has served the past ten years as Cole County’s Clerk and chief election official, said the state of Missouri is comparatively strong regarding transparency.
