A ballot question for Scott Co. voters could help seniors save on their tax bill

BENTON, Mo. (KFVS) - If you live in Scott County, Missouri, you may notice a ballot question regarding property tax relief for seniors when you head to the polls.

“It’s going to freeze some certain taxes to keep your tax liability from increasing year to year,” said Scott County Collector Mark Hensley.

He is talking about the Missouri Senior Citizen Real Estate Tax Relief.

The law reduces future increases for adults 62 or older on the primary residence they own. Hensley said his office decided to put this question on the November ballot after lawmakers clarified what the bill entailed.
