Bozeman Democrat announces U.S. House candidacy

This article was published a couple of weeks ago. However, I did not see any mention of it within this group so I'm posting it for awareness.


Bozeman Rep. Tom Woods announced Thursday that he is running for the Democratic bid in the 2018 U.S. House race in hopes of challenging Republican Congressman Greg Gianforte, but said the race was about so much more than beating him.

“A progressive win in Montana will show the country that Americans are ready for bold, ambitious and progressive ideas that will make improvements in people’s lives,” Woods said.

In a room on the second floor of a hotel in downtown Bozeman, Woods spoke to an energetic crowd of about 50. Woods, surrounded by his wife and two sons, stood on a stage about a foot off the ground and told the eager group that for decades now Washington, D.C., had not been working for ordinary Montanans.

If elected, Woods said he would sponsor Medicare for all and legislation that would provide tuition-free public college for students in Montana. He said he would also work to forgive student debt that is weighing down on an entire generation and stopping them from starting families, businesses and buying their first homes.
