Strip club sues Atlantic City, says resort violated First Amendment

A strip club has filed a lawsuit against Atlantic City, claiming local officials violated the First Amendment when they threatened to revoke the club’s business license, according to a published report.

Stiletto Atlantic City, an adult entertainment club on South Carolina Avenue near the Boardwalk, claims city officials threatened to take action against the club for making cash payments to taxi and limousine drivers after they take patrons to the establishment, the New Jersey Law Journal reported.

Atlantic City law currently bans taxi drivers from even attempting to divert customers to one business over any another, the report said. In the lawsuit, the report said, Stiletto alleges city leaders said they would prosecute the club after learning of its policy.

Stiletto claims the ordinance only gives authorities power to prosecute drivers, not businesses, and says threats from local officials have tried to take away the club’s right to commercial speech, the report said.
