Bullets fly during police chase on I-25

A shootout between a robbery suspect and police during a chase on Interstate 25 that ended near Algodones was one of two officer-involved shootings in the area Tuesday morning.

The first incident, in Bernalillo County’s South Valley, resulted in a suspected car burglar being hospitalized with a bullet wound.

The second case left both a stolen truck that the robbery suspect was driving and police cars marked with bullet holes, but no one was hurt. However, the suspect is accused of threatening a 10-year-old girl at gunpoint during the robbery.

A State Police spokeswoman said the suspect – Lane Reed, 23, from Texas – fired at pursuing officers at least three different times during the chase on I-25 that started just south of Santa Fe.
