Approval ratings for Gov. Martinez continue to sag

Gov. Susana Martinez continues to see her approval ratings slide, according to data published Thursday by a national polling firm that ranks her as the fifth least popular governor in the country.

Fifty-seven percent of registered New Mexico voters surveyed from October through December disapproved of the two-term Republican’s job performance, up from 52 percent the previous quarter. Meanwhile, only 33 percent of those surveyed said they approved of the governor’s performance, down from 37 percent in the previous three months.

The Morning Consult poll has a 3 percent margin of error and is based on surveys of more than a quarter million registered voters around the country.

Martinez ranked as the sixth least popular governor in the country during the previous quarter.

2. The only reason she won re-election was because the

Democrats ran a truly crappy campaign against her. In a (I think I have this right) five person primary, the Democrats in their idiocy chose as the candidate a man whose father had been governor. Name recognition was everything. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I live in New Mexico, and while there's a lot I like here, the local Democratic party is totally disorganized and deserves little respect.

Right now, less than 10 months before our next gubernatorial election, neither party has put up a decent candidate. Hell, I should run.

3. Oh, I disagree!

I'm an Indy (liberal by today's standards) and am leaning toward Lujan-Grisham, though Cervantes would be great as well. I'd love to see Morales as Lt. Gov.

NM has a small population (part of the reason I love it here).

And yes, you should run for something to represent this beautiful state.

La Tejana was pumped up by national media; she has been a horrible governor on most fronts. Many Republicans in this state don't like her, including the Lt. governor (from what I have seen).

5. What I'm finding quite odd is that

I am seeing nothing that resembles campaigning on the part of any gubernatorial candidates so far. It feels scary.

Of course, maybe because we have a hotly contested mayoral election and a nearly as hotly contested city council election happening next month and I'm seeing a lot of those races and nothing of any of the other races.

Since I'm a relative newcomer, moved here in 2008, I doubt I could credibly run for any office here. And to be honest, I probably wouldn't be any good at anything I might win an election for. Even if I could win an election.
