Albuquerque City council sends N.M. United stadium proposal to November ballot

The Albuquerque City Council voted Monday evening 7-2 to place a bond question for the new stadium on the ballot in November.
The proposal would set aside $50 million to fund the project through a massive tax revenue bond measure.

The stadium will be a publicly-owned facility, but the contract details are still up in the air.
“We don’t know what we’re going to build, how big it’s going to be, where we’re going to build it. We don’t know what it’s going to (finally) cost,” said Trudy Jones, city councilor. The two dissenting votes were from Jones and Brook Bassan.

Some city councilors were in full support. “I think this is a good deal for our city and that we ought to let voters participate,” said Pat Davis, city councilor.

Another item about free city bus fare for the year was tabled for a future meeting.
($50 million + for a soccer stadium -- free bus fare put off for another day?)
