(23,156 posts)I live in New Mexico, and was horrified that this would be on the ballot.
Even if I am well beyond the age of ever needing such a thing.

(113,131 posts)but since the big hospitals and the main clinic is here, they'll be voting on absolutely nothing.
I haven't seen many late term abortions since I moved here, but they were all medically necessary because the woman would have died along with the holy fetus had she been forbidden a termination.
I wish these ignorant dirtbags could see the stuff I have, but knowing a few of them better than I ever wanted to, I know they'd just keep blaming the woman for getting pregnant and being too sick to carry to term.

(23,156 posts)work at Christus St. Vincent Hospital. At the information desk, so if you ever come by there between 4pm and 8pm on a week night, that will by my smiling face you see.
Anyway, Christus is a Catholic group, which means no abortions, which means I do have a certain ethical problem working there. Since I am personally well past the age of possibly needing such a service, I honestly have no idea where in this city a woman might go to who need such a thing.
And the idea that late term abortions only happen because a woman makes a last minute decision not to have the baby is beyond offensive.
Both times that I was pregnant I was very sensitive to things that might have made me want to terminate the pregnancy. I had a certain amount of genetic testing. The second time I was an older mother, 38, and my OB was quite nervous that I didn't test for Down's syndrome. Personally, I felt that was something I could live with, but I would NEVER judge another woman who could not live with that. In the end, I had completely normal children. Well, the first one turns out to have Asperger's Syndrome, but honestly, nothing actually serious.
How can I, or you, or anyone else, tell a particular woman (along with her partner) that she absolutely MUST have this particular child. Excuse me? What I can deal with may well be completely different from what you can deal with. You must be the one to make your own decisions.
I really hate people who think they can decide stuff for me.

(113,131 posts)that refers all surgical cases, including abortion, down here to the big city?
I live about a mile from Planned Parenthood here and I'm always amazed by how grim faced the protestors are. If my religion made me that miserable, I'd dump it. Oh wait, I did.
I'm delighted I'm past it now, but I don't want any young woman to have a friend die of a botched illegal abortion like I did.
Bottom line: antiabortion laws kill women. That's what we need to focus on since the opposition erases the woman the second they start to rant.
