Whatever descriptors one might want to attach to Wendell Gunthorpe – defendant and habitual offender among them – he is indisputably consistent.

If he is found guilty at trial this week, it will be the third time he has been convicted of trying to kill his wife.

Or wives.

Each time, starting in 1968, he was married to a different woman.

And each time he used a different weapon – the first time a gun, then a knife and finally a crossbow and fists.
