Governor’s stand on driver’s licenses ‘almost Trumpism’
LOS LUNAS Gov. Susana Martinezs opposition to the states immigrant drivers license law is similar to GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trumps racially charged comments, the states top Democratic Senate leader said Tuesday.
Speaking at his Los Lunas law office, Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez, D-Belen, told reporters the Republican governors efforts to repeal the law and her lies about pending federal Real ID requirements were almost Trumpism because they were dividing New Mexico residents.
Were family in New Mexico, Sanchez said. All this governor has done is try to divide us.
Specifically, Sanchez said Martinez is falsely telling residents they will need passports for commercial air travel in January, though the federal government has not announced when those requirements will be adopted. Sanchez said constituents who called the Governors Office have been falsely told they needed to get passports by Jan. 10.
