Cuomo talks infrastructure, Obamacare, homelessness with Trump
As planned, Gov. Andrew Cuomo discussed the state impact of repealing the federal Affordable Care Act, infrastructure spending and federal support to combat homelessness with President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday.
Basically the conversation was about both the opportunities for the state of New York and the needs of the state of New York while the president-elect is going down to hear about the federal policies, Cuomo, a Democrat, said after a roughly hour-long meeting with the Republican at Trump Tower in Manhattan in the late morning.
Cuomo said Trump seemed to understand how repeal of the Affordable Care Act would result in dramatic negative effects for the state. The Cuomo administration projects that repeal could blow a $3.7 billion hole in the state budget and leave some 2.7 million New Yorkers uninsured.
Cuomo said Trump, whom he described as knowledgable about the ACA, discussed state control of health care, though the governor cautioned that federal resources must be made available.
