SPOTLIGHT RACE: Sarah Rogerson for NY-SD44
As a public-interest attorney representing protesters and immigrants, as the family member of a school-shooting victim advocating for community gun violence prevention, and as an organizer and expert advocate leading key New York resistance to MAGA, she shows up when it matters and doesnt back down.
As one of the countrys leading experts on immigration law, Sarah has worked with important allies like the New York Immigration Coalition and Columbia County Sanctuary Movement to draft some of New Yorks most crucial legislation to protect our immigrant neighbors and the rule of law.
Sarah is the founding director of Albany Law Schools Immigration Law Clinic, and now leads the Edward P. Swyer Justice Center that houses it, training and mobilizing the next generation of public interest lawyers to serve on the front lines opposing Trumps war against our most vulnerable community members. As a public interest crisis lawyer, she has jumped into fights that needed her: representing protesters peacefully exercising their First-Amendment rights, helping her own family and their neighbors in the wake of a mass shooting, organizing low-income housing co-operatives, and building teams from across the country to help refugee families whose safe haven in New York was being threatened.
When the world stopped during COVID, public schools continued to educate, so Sarah stepped up to serve on the Niskayuna School Board, lending her expertise and leadership on key issues like electric bus conversion and safe storage of firearms.
Now Sarah is running for New York State Senate District 44 because the working families of Saratoga and Schenectady counties need a principled fighter to help New York not only defend itself against MAGA bullying and corruption, but forge a better way forward, leading the nation as an example of the power of community.
