http://cscottholmes.blogspot.com/2015/03/need-help-our-little-dog-bella-is-still.htmlNeed Help: Our Little Dog Bella is still Missing
On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, around 5:00 pm our precious Maltese "Bella" wandered out of our yard as my wife Kerry was unloading groceries and wrangling our four kids. She headed toward the corner of Cornwallis and Pickett Road, where a number of people saw her heading toward the road. Multiple people stopped, but the young woman who picked her up and loaded her in her car has not returned her.
Bella is a part of our family. She follows my wife to the bathroom and scratches on the door because she can't bear the separation. She bounces when we come home. She likes the rest of us, but she loves my wife. My wife, Caroline, drove seven hours to rescue and adopt Bella, and Bella knows it.
We spent Thursday printing signs, contacting the Animal Shelter and local vets. Kerry made some HUGE yellow signs which are still standing vigil at the corner of Pickett/Cornwallis and Cornwallis/Academy.
Our six year old Liam, whose favorite movie is 101 Dalmatians, was very upset to hear that Bella may have been taken. It is hard to see our smallest one living the nightmare of Cruella de Ville.
We received a call Thursday, around 8:00 pm, from the young woman who picked Bella up. She confirmed the details of Bella's collar. She said that Bella got into her car voluntarily. She sounded a little worried she may be in trouble. She asked how much we were offering for a reward, and when my wife said she was unsure - the young woman hung up.
We have hoped she would call back, but so far, nothing.
We really hope she calls. We are not trying to get her in trouble, we just want Bella home. Maybe a neighbor or friend will recognize Bella and encourage her to do the right thing.
Who knows, but you can help by sharing this post, by putting it on your neighborhood list-serve. You can put it on twitter, and any other social media - spread the picture and the story of our lost loved little one.
If you can help us find Bella, our other two dogs (Hannah and Misty), our four kids, (Liam, Nate, Caleb, and Jenna), and most especially my wife, Caroline - will be eternally grateful.

(22,666 posts)6. UPDATE: Durham family's dog held for money returns home
. . .On Friday, Scott Holmes said Bella was returned Thursday evening but would not elaborate on the circumstances of her return.
Our family is so happy she is home. We are celebrating her return. She has slept a lot and seems to be perking up today, Scott Holmes said.
Scott Holmes said the family is collecting reward money for a single mother in Chapel Hill who provided information that lead to Bella's return.
Anyone interested in contributing to the reward can contact Scott Holmes at scott@brockmeece.com.

(22,666 posts)7. No bond reduction for accused dog thief
Mar. 23, 2015 @ 05:52 PM
Keith Upchurch
A woman accused of stealing a dog from a Durham attorney's family and trying to extort money from them made her first court appearance Monday and was denied a bond reduction.
Amanda Shanese Bynum, 28, of Camilia Street in Carrboro was arrested Saturday by police and charged with larceny of a dog, felony conspiracy and extortion. She allegedly stole a Maltese poodle mix and threatened not to return it unless she was paid $600.
. . .
Holmes said Bella was lethargic over the weekend, but is bouncing back. He said she appeared to be in good shape physically.
"My wife and Bella are catching up on their sleep and are really, really glad to be reunited," Holmes said. "They're very close, and they're doing really well. There's been a lot of joy in our house since we got Bella home."
