I am very impressed with the masses of support, from all over the country, we have now waiting at the ready, thanks to the great work of Governor Cooper. He cares deeply about us and it shows. His next press briefing will be at 5 pm on UNC TV, public television.

Please note that you can call 211 for all of your nonemergent needs, including to learn how to volunteer when the time comes.

If you have an emergency call 911 but keep in mind that if the wind speed reaches above 40 miles per hour, you may have to wait. Emergency responders are prohibited from putting themselves in harms way.

Under NO circumstances, drive through water! The majority of the deaths during and after Matthew were water related. TURN AROUND DON'T DROWN.

glued to The Weather Channel.

We're getting wind gusts in the upper 30 mph range, but not a lot of rain.

Managed to do first morning dog walk without any rain. Just wind.

The coast is getting slammed. Water rescues in New Bern.

Anybody in the coastal areas?

12. 0917 Saturday

Still raining, over a foot so far. No electricity and my landline is dead. (Thanks for nothing, ATT.) House spared any major damage. No trees down but it looks like the Creator tossed a huge salad in the yard. Charging the cellphone in the car, currently. In a flash flooding watch but on high ground. Here comes another wind rain band. Two days will pass before the storm is gone. Wish me luck. With love to all!

16. Yay for restored power!

Our power went out late Friday afternoon--downtown Raleigh with all underground power--but was back on in 4 hours. It was eerie looking out my 17th floor window and seeing lights only in one direction and everything dark in the other direction. Soon after the power went out the sirens started. Stoplights were out. My guess? Accidents from people not stopping before proceeding through intersections.

I used to live in Chapel Hill. They had very little rain from Florence from Friday to Sunday, but a torrential downpour from yesterday through this morning and major flooding in various low parts of town. I've seen some video. One street looked like a river. Eastgate Shopping Center right off Franklin Street which has had flooding problems for years was under quite a few feet of water!

There's more flooding to come. Glad you are on high ground.
