The first case of the Novel Coronavirus - COVID-19 - has been confirmed in Craven County.
Craven County Health Director Scott Harrelson made the announcement Saturday morning.
We have our first positive, a person who recently traveled out of the country, Harrelson said. We believe that is where he acquired it. The individual and their spouse have been in isolation and quarantine and now we begin contact tracing.
Close contact is anyone who was within six feet of the individual for 10 minutes or more.
Harrelson said it is not believed that this was a community acquired transmission.
The couple is in home isolation.
The treatment information is not available.
I cannot speak to what treatment they might receive because the persons individual physician will determine that, Harrelson said. Our (health department) staff will reach out to their immediate contacts and they will be quarantined.
The man who tested positive became symptomatic and had a negative flu test. He was tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday and confirmation of positive COVID-19 test results were received at the Craven County Health Department Saturday morning from the North Carolina State Lab.
Previously, Craven had seven or more people in self-quarantine, with four expected to come off the 14-day quarantine period this weekend. Harrelson said Friday that only one of those in quarantine was symptomatic.
He said the others were advised to self-quarantine at home after recent travel to Zone 3 European countries or being in contact with someone who is symptomatic of the virus.
Craven County Government COVID-19 updates will appear on the Craven County website at www.cravencountync.gov , on the Craven County Facebook page @cravencounty and the Craven

(18,748 posts)I'm really glad you're here. So now I know there's a confirmed case in Durham. I'm not going to rest easy till we all tuck in. I'd mentioned in a GD thread that I was boarding up my windows. It got some laughs & funny replies, but I was dead serious when I first wrote it. I hate it that there's going to be civil unrest. I am literally nailing the bookshelves and boards over one door & most windows. (I have other exits!)
Today: I prepared pasta listening to David Bowie's "Suffragette City". I found myself- in these times- BOOGEYING in my kitchen.
That song has so much brilliant energy. I hope you're well, lmsp!!

(25,737 posts)I know that's more stress sorry. And the Durham reference is the county, not sure if it's the town also. I think, I need to go out but I am terrified. Still waiting to hear from the pharmacist. Do it now or later, the indecision and the waiting is mortifying.
Blessings to you.

(18,748 posts)That can break a window or put out a fire, come to it. I don't live in an area where I hear gunfire (just backfire from cars). But there will be so much desperation everywhere that people will be getting food thru kindness or force. So it's "preemptivizing".
I've got my fingers crossed for you about the medication. I don't know what I'm going to do with mine except start dividing it when it comes down to the wire. I KNOW you are terrified to go out. I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't. But calling about your meds twice a day? That's a lot safer. I wish you luck and I love you too, darlin.
