Gov. Roy Cooper orders NC schools to close for at least 2 weeks

By Adam Lawson | March 14, 2020 at 4:31 PM EDT - Updated March 14 at 6:27 PM

RALEIGH, N.C. (WBTV) - North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper has ordered public K-12 schools in the state to close for at least two weeks.

His announcement in a Saturday press conference came hours after it was revealed a Wake County elementary school teacher tested positive for COVID-19, forcing schools in that district to close for at least two weeks.

This will begin Monday, and last at least through March 30. School buildings will be open as a teacher workday Monday to allow staff and students to retrieve personal items and resources.

Good luck everyone.

I haven't seen any plans to feed the ones that are dependent on the meal programs in the school that have to stay home now. Have you heard anything about this?

as I understand it is to designate certain schools to remain open only so the cafeteria kitchen can function. Bus drivers will then be used to deliver food to vulnerable students or designated location for pickup.

If it weren't for your updates and other DU posts I'd think everything was normal. My neighbors are coming and going; stores had plenty of TP and water when I went pre-self-quarantine a couple of days ago. I assume that's because I'm out in the boonies. And I assume normalcy will change to great concern all around here when testing is more frequent and our numbers go up.

Wishing good health and sufficient supplies for you, neighbors in Raleigh and elsewhere in NC. And the world.

The last time I was afraid to go out was NY in the 60s, when I could hear the drums and smell the fires down the street in Washington Square Park. Those were angry times. This is different.
