CINCINNATI -- Since taking office in January as the first Democrat in more than 100 years to serve as Hamilton County Clerk of Courts, Aftab Pureval has made significant changes.
On Friday, Pureval announced that several more employees had left the office, bringing the total to 23 who have either resigned or been fired. He said it has saved the county more than $475,000 in salary. He intends to invest in new technology to make the office more efficient.
"Voters elected us to modernize the office," he said in a statement. "We've done that with the incredible talent we've hired, and we've done it by eliminating waste and redirecting taxpayer funding on areas that actually impact customer service."
The 34-year-old former Procter & Gamble attorney told The Enquirer earlier this year he intends to change the structure of the office. Most significantly, he said, hiring decisions would be unrelated to politics.

That, and the incumbent came from a family too entrenched in Hamilton County public offices.
As well as being a presidential year election, bringing Hamilton County Dems to the polls.
