Richard Cordray and Mike DeWine Announce Three Gubernatorial Debates, Including in Cleveland
With less than two months until the November elections, and all eyes on Ohio, Democrat Richard Cordray and Republican Mike DeWine announced today a trilogy of debates around the state, including one in Cleveland.
Cordray, the former Ohio attorney general and former director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau during Obama's presidency, and DeWine, Ohio's current attorney general, are vying for the governor's office since Gov. John Kasich is term-limited.
The debates are the first for any Ohio gubernatorial candidates since 2010, when John Kasich narrowly defeated sitting governor Ted Strickland. The candidates will go head-to-head in a series of three debates, one in Dayton on Sept. 19, one in Marietta on Oct. 1 and one in Cleveland on Oct. 8, just two days before the start of early voting. The debate in Cleveland will be hosted by the Ohio Debate Commission.
Cleveland's debate will take place at Cleveland State University and only Cordray and DeWine will be participating. Third party candidates, civil rights attorney and former Green Party co-chair Constance Gadell-Newton and filmmaker and journalist Travis Irvine will not be participating.
