Poll from liberal think tank shows close race between Sherrod Brown and Jim Renacci

CLEVELAND, Ohio - A recent poll commissioned by a liberal think tank shows a near toss-up in almost every statewide race in Ohio, though Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown still holds a slight lead over GOP U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci.

The poll, while welcome news for most of the statewide Democrats who hope to remain competitive, is the first in the general election to show Renacci anywhere close to within striking distance of Brown. Brown has held a double-digit lead in publicly released polling.

The poll was online only, using voters confirmed to be on the voter file. It was conducted from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4 with a sample size of 822 likely voters and a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3 percent.

Brown led the Senate race against Renacci at 46 percent to 42 percent, the best showing for Renacci in any credible polling.
