Ohio school voucher expansion squeezes public schools

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A year ago, no students in the Parma school district used Ohio’s main tuition voucher program to attend private schools.

This year, thanks to changes in state law, 359 students are using vouchers.

For families paying tuition to send their kids to Parma-area private Catholic schools like Padua or Holy Name, a $6,000 tax-funded voucher toward tuition is a huge help.

For the district, it’s a $2.1 million hit to the budget that impacts teachers, books and supplies for its schools.

********** I think our religion loving Republicans in the Ohio state house would love nothing more than to squeeze public education out of commission..... then they can point to the myriad public school closings and say "See! Public education is a failure!"

But from where I am from, the majority are either religious schools or are run by businesses looking to make a buck.

Catholic schools promote anti gay and anti women agenda. They are far from liberal. And Catholic schools are probably the largest recipients of these tax payer funded vouchers.

In the state of Texas, it's pure religious indoctrination. Trump youth training camps....
