COVID-19 hospitalizations spike across Ohio; burden on hospitals highest of pandemic

More Ohioans than ever before are being hospitalized for coronavirus after the state reported five days of new cases over 2,000.

By Tuesday, an additional 216 Ohioans were hospitalized with COVID-19, which is more new hospitalizations reported in a single day than ever before, Gov. Mike DeWine said during his bi-weekly virus briefing.

Ohio's hospitals are now caring for more COVID-19 patients than at any time since the pandemic began in March. As of Tuesday, 1,221 Ohioans remained hospitalized with COVID-19, including 322 in ICUs and 161 on ventilators, according to the state.

DeWine pleaded with Ohioans again on Tuesday to do what they can to keep the virus at bay. What Ohioans do will impact whether businesses can stay open and kids can stay in school, he said.

"We can turn this heat down and we can get back to a simmer of this virus rather than a flame …" DeWine said. "We owe it to our children, we owe it to their future, we owe it to our state's future to fight back against this virus... It doesn't have to be this way....”

Which doesn’t penetrate the thick skulls of the Trumpist deniers.

If he gets too tough and issues actual orders for safety precautions, he’ll get kidnapped by a militia....
