COVID-19 in Ohio: New virus cases jump nearly 1,000 to a record 8,071

Ohio's exploding COVID-19 pandemic continued without cease on Friday with the state reporting a record 8,071 cases, nearly 1,000 more than Thursday.

The prior record of 7,101 new infections came only on Thursday.

The state also reported an above-average 298 hospitalizations and 42 more deaths on Friday.

The pandemic worse numbers have led Gov. Mike DeWine to toughen mask and social gathering requirements and threaten to close restaurants, bars and gyms beginning Thursday if cases remain high.

In only a week, Ohio raced past the 4,000 daily case mark to more than 6,000 and then, two days later, to more than 7,000 cases on Thursday.
