Third-highest daily COVID deaths reported as Ohio adds itself to travel advisory for 15% positive rate on tests
As Ohio awaits the first vaccine, its virus numbers remain worrisome: 7,835 new infections and 123 additional COVID-19 deaths were reported on Wednesday.
The first days of December numbers are not dissimilar from the record spike that saw the number of monthly infections more than triple to 205,000 during November while producing nearly half of the pandemic's total cases in only 30 days.
Tuesday saw 9,030 virus cases the third most ever and 119 deaths, with Wednesday's 123 fatalities now the third-highest daily total. The 7,835 cases on Wednesday were beneath the 8,122 three-week average.
Amid worries that hospitals are beginning to be overwhelmed by increasing numbers of virus patients, the state also reported 436 new hospitalizations on Wednesday one day after a record 585 daily admissions.
