Tulsa Woman Sentenced To Life For Sexually Abusing 10 Year Old

TULSA, Oklahoma - A Tulsa County judge sentenced a woman to five life sentences for sexual abuse of a minor child under the age of 12.

Melissa Anderson, 35, of Tulsa was charged with five counts in September 2014. In November 2014, she waived a jury trial and pleaded guilty to the five charges. On January 22, 2015, a judge ordered her to prison.

Prosecutors said Anderson had sex with a 10-year-old boy while her boyfriend, Michael Burris, 39, watched.

And I have no sympathy for her. Well, life is a long time. But why is the boyfriend only charged with "allowing" it?

I wonder how long male pedophiles get.

That poor child.

Under Oklahoma statute, he should get the same (or very close) sentence. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Page 160 is the start of the statute:

I actually just looked it up and what others have been sentenced to in Oklahoma. They sure are tough on pedophiles.

I still don't get that charge. He may not have touched the child but I am sure the damage he caused getting off and watching is as great as what she did.

I also have to wonder if he's the pedophile and she's just a horrible, horrible, stupid, disgusting woman that did it for her "man." The fact she plead guilty and waived jury trial (the latter I assume happened prior to the plea) makes me think she felt remorse.

They're both sick.

He didn't force her to rape a 10 year old - he may have encouraged it, but he probably wasn't holding a gun to her head. You're right, though - they're both sick.

I said it badly. She is responsible for her actions and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. Just the circumstances make me wonder about if her rape of this child was driven by her pedophilia. It matters not. It was just a wondering. The result is the same and she deserves everything she gets

the prosecutors may have thought that charge was the one most likely to stand up on appeal. I agree that he is equally responsible, though. He's probably likely to spend most of his life behind bars too.

For the life of me, I can't imagine what any of these perverts get out of such sick acts.

People who do things like this just aren't right in the head. They have something lacking in their souls, and they simply don't deserve to live in our society.

It seems to me that it is more than the sick attraction they feel that so many act on it. That so many do try to fight it and so many fail. It seems to be something overwhelming.

I honestly think that more research needs to be done to stop it. Something more than chemical castration. I have read that some pedophiles have voluntarily been castrated to stop what they urge. That's a person with a good soul and some bad wiring.

Doing more research and finding a life long cure would stop children from being so desperately hurt. And maybe it would make people who do suffer from this horror come forward to receive a cure rather than trying to fight it on their own, and fail.

Please don't think for a second I have any sympathy for these people that hurt this child, or any person who hurt a child. I am just wishing there were a way to stop it from ever happening again

What really scares me is that acts of pedophilia are more common among people who were themselves victimized as children. It's like a virus that passes itself on to the next generation.

And if that's the case, they will eventually find what it is. Once they find it, they can do so much more for treatment or a cure

I know that abused people often grow up to abuse but I didn't realize that pedophilia was basically handed down. I really thought it was pretty random

but even people who are abused by non-family members are more prone to become offenders. In my opinion, so much damage to the psyche is done to victims, that their views of sexuality are warped.

How horrible. Just how horrible.

Every time I hear a story about some poor child being attacked like this, I think about the kid Steven. I can't think of his last name. They made a movie called "I know my name is Steven"

Just so horribly sad.

Thank you for all the information and the conversation.

He died so young. His brother ended up being a killer later on. I think he killed women in one of the national parks. Sad story all the way around. The movie was called "I Know My First Name is Steven." I remember seeing it years ago and it had a big impact on me. I was young when I saw the movie. I felt so bad for him and all he had to go through.

Yes, that was a real tragedy. I read the book and was so glad when they made the movie and he was part of it. Then everything just starting crumbling away for the family. I can't imagine how horrible it had to be for them.

Thanks for the information.

Could easily, IMHO, be primarily genetic, but some are also caught up via environment/exposure (like alcoholism, for example, has been shown to manifest).

I'm also one of those very few folks with a small modicum of compassion for these people. I just think, there's virtually NO treatment (and probably literally none ... outside of prison), even if you WANT it more than anything, and they're people going through life feeling ostracized, ridiculed, threatened, spat-upon, despised ... and imprisoned if they act upon desires that, in probably in most cases ... the person doesn't understand, didn't 'wish' for, would like to change, etc.

When I consider how many of these folks were victims themselves, I have at least a LITTLE reticence towards blanket declarations of unbridled hatred, put it that way.
