Kate Brown: Oregon will keep accepting Syrian refugeesSALEM Gov. Kate Brown broke her silence on the controversy over resettling Syrian refugees Tuesday, saying that Oregon will "open the doors of opportunity" for displaced people.

Brown, a Democrat, posted a second tweet: "The words on the Statue of Liberty apply in Oregon just as they do in every other state."

The comments reveal why we can use more diversity.

(5,376 posts)2. Governor Vic Atiyeh was the son of Syrian immigrants.
One of Oregon's better governors, in my opinion, he was a "good Republican" as were Tom McCall and Mark Hatfield. Those were the days!
I applaud Governor Brown's decision and I am supporting her re-election.
Love our state motto: She Flies With Her Own Wings. That's my Oregon!
Cheers.

(80 posts)3. Keeping in mind...
No governor has the authority to reject refugees.
Any governor stating otherwise is posturing to fools who don't know how the federal laws work.

sad that a governor acknowledging that she would continue to follow the law on this matter was considered newsworthy...
