One of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's newest wealthy backers has bankrolled a huge stockpile of pee that sits in Oregon's Josephine County.
That revelation came Tuesday via The Intercept, which published a story noting that Robert Mercer, a billionaire hedge fund CEO who had contributed roughly $10 million to the failed campaign of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, had thrown his largesse in with the Trump camp to the tune of $2 million.
While contributions of wealthy donors are not uncommon in presidential contests, it is rare that the money flowing into campaign coffers trickles out of the same bank account that funds a cache of urine.
According to a profile of Mercer by Bloomberg earlier this year, when the billionaire isn't sinking his money into Republican campaigns, he spends at least some of it funding the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine, which is based on a remote 500-acre sheep ranch in Cave Junction, according to the institute's website.
