Anyone from Central Oregon?

I read the local newspaper here (I actually used to work for it), and the reactionary letters to the editor are my main source of entertainment. We have everything: Right-wingers blaming the forest fires on environmentalists, to local sports coaches defending their right to lead a public sports team in prayer, with other writers acting as cheerleaders and berating those who write in to protest.

Then we have the "FDR Democrat" editorial board that thinks it's progressive because they're pro-choice, but endorse every Republican candidate for everything. They also back voter ID.

Anytime someone says "liberal media", I want to show them our Bulletin rag.

I am a little north of Grants Pass, gave up my subscription several years ago because of their right wing slants on everything.

I don't read the Bulletin any more. I cancelled my subscription, as did many of my colleagues, a few years back in response to their anti-education, anti-teacher, anti-union editorials.

As in 'way up, from $11/month to $17/month. Actually, I rarely read the thing, especially editorials, political stories and LTTE. The stress isn't worth it. I have thought that maybe I was helping the person who delivers it to my driveway every morning, you know, give him/her a bit of income, but it's become clear the Bulletin doesn't give a whit whether I have an income or not, since the repubs they support seem to determined to take my SS and Medicare benefits away from me. Plus I'm one of those evil PERS retirees, which doubles the Bulletin's disdain for my existence. They inflame the right wing anti-government environmentalist haters so prevalent in these parts and I've really had it. Whenever the guy who sits in the lobby at Fred Meyer tries to give me the rag he's pushing I politely say, "No thanks, I'm a subscriber." Will now change my line to "No thanks, don't care to become a subscriber." With a smile of course. He's just trying to make a living. Too bad SS may not be available for him if the Rs are elected, but hey, we get what we vote for I guess. Speaking of which--voter ID for vote-by-mail? How's that gonna work?? Guess Knute Buehler will let us know if he's elected SOS.

Enough ranting. Thanks for the forum, and keep up the good fight.
