One other person was reported injured.
Clackamas County sheriff's Lt. James Rhodes said authorities were still trying to get more details about the situation at the Clackamas Town Center. So far, the shooter has only been described as an "adult male."
Authorities said there was no indication that there was more than one gunman. Officials say police did not fire a shot during the incident.

Thoughts? Feelings? Opinions about the coverage? Does this affect your attitude toward holiday shopping? Seemed like we should have a local thread to talk about this, as well as the LBN and GD threads.

(24,717 posts)I agree, it's callously phrased, and I'd probably say it differently if I'd been more thoughtful. However, I think it's a valid question, or within shouting distance of a valid question, for people there -- they were with their families in what was supposedly a safe and festive place, and that situation got up-ended in just about the worst way possible.
Incidents like this one and the Pioneer Square terrorist attack from a few years ago constitute significant breaches in the illusion of comfort and well-being with which we surround ourselves, particularly during the holiday season. Does such divergence from the artificial normal permanently taint the observance?

(50,254 posts)Do they have any info about the killer, yet? Anyone know what might have been the trigger for him?

From what I've heard this morning, the police have ID'd the killer, but aren't releasing any info (including motive or weapon model) to the public yet.

(24,717 posts)Lovely headline: The shooter "had 'weird look'" -- yeah, the hockey mask and the AR-15 tend to do that to mall visitors. In Mad Max world, it's perfectly normal.
Killer: Jacob Tyler Roberts, 22, using a stolen AR-15
Victims: Steven Mathew Forsyth, 45; Cindy Ann Yuille, 54; Kristina Shevchenko, 15, is in serious condition
Strangely enough, the possibly-tactless question I asked in my OP (about attitudes toward holiday shopping) was one of the primary things the OPB news discussed in their local news broadcast this morning: how malls are adding uniformed police officers to re-instate the feeling of safety shoppers expect.
