We have an Annular Eclipse crossing Oregon October 14th

Will hit the coast around 8am between Florence and Reedsport, then move southeast across the state.

edge of annularity.

I'm thinking of driving to Albuquerque the day before to find a good spot to watch it.

I already have eclipse glasses, thanks to My Son The Astronomer. I've also asked him to find and send me binoculars for watching an eclipse.

You probably already know, but DO NOT watch the eclipse without proper eye-wear, and this far ahead is a good time to get it. My wonderful son sent me 10 eclipse glasses and five eclipse shades, so I expect to share them freely wherever I am watching.

There's going to be a total eclipse in April, 2024, Alas, it's nowhere near Oregon. However, in August, 2045, there will be another total eclipse that will pass through Oregon that you should plan on seeing. The reason? Totality will last as long as 6 minutes in places. Wow. I saw the total eclipse of 2017 in Nebraska, and had a bit over 2 minutes, which was still amazing. August 2045 is just before my 97th birthday, so I realize I may not get to see it. But do the math on your age, and plan on seeing this one.

We went to a winery directly under it to watch. Very memorable.

namely Connie Willis, her husband Courtney, and their daughter Cordelia. If the name doesn't ring a bell, google her.

In the science fiction world she's extremely well known. Outside, not so much. It was absolutely fascinating to watch her chat with people who had no idea who she is. They only saw a very nice older lady talking with them.

I've been trying to figure out how to get a picture of her here, and cannot figure it out. Sigh. But Connie is an amazing and wonderful person. Eclipses are amazing and wonderful. 2017 was my first ever total eclipse, and I finally understood why people who can, will chase eclipses around the world.
