Pa. businessman accused of fraudulently obtaining more than $400K in COVID-19 relief funds
WILLIAMSPORT – The owner of a Berwick towing business has been charged with wire fraud and agreed to plead guilty to fraudulently obtaining and attempting to obtain more than $400,000 in COVID-19 relief funds.
Hayes D. Horner Jr., 67, of Berwick, was charged Tuesday in U.S. Middle District Court by criminal information.
Filed simultaneously was a signed plea agreement in which Horner agrees to forfeit $100,583 in a bank account of his business, Horner’s Towing & Recovery, and pay restitution of $158,900.
The charge accuses Horner and unidentified co-conspirators of devising a scheme to obtain and attempt to obtain the COVID-19 relief funds through the Small Business Administration’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program.
