Pa. dad teaching teen to drive ends with SUV crashing into house

Dads teaching their teens to drive is a rite of passage. But this driving lesson went very wrong. The Sunday driving lesson in McKeesport, Pa., ended with the family SUV smashed into a house, causing the home owners to lose water service and perhaps sparking a natural gas leak, as well.

The homeowner was quoted as saying the whole incident began with a dad teaching his teen to drive. The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. Sunday on the 2500 block of Walnut Street in McKeesport, Allegheny County.

The dad and teen weren’t named in the reports, which adds:
There was no immediate word on any injuries in the crash. However, EMS did respond to the scene.

At last report, the damaged home was without water, as the crash hit the water line and might have caused a natural gas leak.

A teenage girl being given a lesson by her mother ran her mother over while trying to parallel park and killed her.

This is why drivers’ education should be offered without fee through every high school. Those cars have an extra set of brakes and the lessons are given by trained instructors.

My district had both behind-the-wheel instruction and a class on driver safety and rules in 10th grade. Both became a budget cut in the 80’s and of course, never returned.

but I had already taken a course in Hawaii through the Army (we were stationed there when I was able to get my permit). When I sat down with my couselor my senior year he said I was not going to graduate because I hadn't taken driver's ed. I gave him my story and said I was not going to take the course as I had been driving legally in California since I was 15yo. I still graduated.
