18 apply to fill McGloin's vacant commissioner seat (D)
Eighteen potential appointees applied to fill former Democratic Lackawanna County Commissioner Matt McGloin’s vacant seat, county Democratic Party Chairman Chris Patrick said Thursday.
Patrick did not release the names of the 18 individuals, but said he plans to issue a statement Friday following the party executive committee’s closed Thursday night meeting to determine which three names to submit for consideration by the judges of the county Court of Common Pleas.
The judges will then appoint one of the three people on that short list to fill McGloin’s unexpired term, which ends Jan. 3, 2028.
The first-term commissioner announced last week that he would resign effective Monday, prompting the whirlwind process to fill his seat. It has been politically contentious, with Democratic Commissioner Bill Gaughan sparring with Patrick and Democratic state Sen. Marty Flynn over the appointment process.
