Analyst says Trump tariffs could cost Pennsylvania 5.3B

This is front page on the local newspaper that still has a daily print edition in addition to online.

Trade Partnership Worldwide reviewed U.S. imports from November through January to calculate how much more Trump's tariffs would affect each state over current conditions. The tariffs could cost U.S. businesses an additional $233 billion a year, according to the analysis. The $5.3 billion increase to Pennsylvania businesses — an uptick of 257% — ranked the state ninth in the country, according to its analysis.

And that does not include the impact retaliatory tariffs will have on the economy.

In response to Trump's tariffs, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced 25% tariffs on $30 billion of U.S. goods. China placed 15% tariffs on imports of chicken, wheat, corn and cotton, and 10% tariffs on other foods, including soybeans and dairy products. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also announced 25% tariffs Tuesday.
