County Democratic committee endorses Corey O'Connor for Pittsburgh mayor
After hours of voting, the Allegheny County Democratic Committee narrowly endorsed Corey O’Connor in the race for Pittsburgh mayor in this spring’s primary, the second straight mayoral primary in which the coveted endorsement went to the sitting mayor’s challenger.
Mr. O’Connor, the Allegheny County controller, will face off against Mayor Ed Gainey in May. The thin margin of the endorsement vote triggered the committee to conduct a recount Monday.
The committee announced its slate of endorsements Sunday evening, about a month and a half ahead of the May 20 primary election.
Mr. Gainey thanked the committee and said he was proud of the support and “energy behind our campaign.”
