York City Mayor ends re-election campaign weeks after entering race

However, following the shooting at UPMC Memorial in late February, Muldrow said he would drop out of the race to spend time with family and continue his work with the police department.

Days later, Helfrich threw his hat into the ring, saying he would run for re-election.

Now, during a Wednesday Facebook Live, Helfrich announced he would drop his re-election campaign and would endorse former city council president Sandie Walker (D).

In 2022, Walker questioned the legality of Helfrich’s position as mayor due to the timing of his oath of office. A judge later ruled in Helfrich’s favor.
