After inactive voter purge, GOP registration advantage widens in Luzerne County
The number of registered Republican voters in Luzerne County has dropped since last November’s general election, but the GOP has increased its registration advantage over Democrats.
That’s because the number of Democratic voters in the county shrank by an even larger amount due to post-election purging of inactive voters. The county election bureau purged 7,905 voters after the Nov. 5 general election because they didn’t vote in the 2022 and 2024 federal elections, county Election Director Emily Cook said.
As of March 10, the total number of registered voters in the county was 202,947 — down from 209,688 for the Nov. 5 election. Republicans currently have 90,076 registered voters and outnumber Democrats by 5,752.
Last November, 91,435 Republicans were registered, and the GOP registration advantage was 2,688. Democratic registration was 88,747 in November and now is 84,324.
