Four Lycoming County townships to vote on small games of chance in May primary election

LYCOMING COUNTY, Pa. — Voters in four rural townships in Lycoming County have the chance to vote in the primary election on a ballot question: whether to allow small games of chance. One of those townships is Porter Township, which surrounds Jersey Shore.

"I think generally you're talking about activities such as maybe a fire hall or a charitable organization running some kind of fundraiser that involves small games," said Forrest Lehman, Lycoming County director of elections.

In addition to Porter Township, the question will appear on ballots in Mifflin, Cascade, and Gamble Townships. Democratic and Republican voters in those townships will find this question at the bottom of their ballot. Third-party voters can also voice their opinions on this question.

"Normally third party voters would not be able to participate in a primary because Pennsylvania's a closed primary state, however, in those four townships a third party voter would be able to come in and vote just on the question they'll receive a different ballot that only has the question on it," said Lehman.
