Candidates for Pittsburgh mayor present campaign pitches at community forum

For the first time during the primary election season, all four candidates for Pittsburgh mayor appeared on the same stage.

Mayor Ed Gainey and his Democratic challenger, Allegheny County Controller Corey O’Connor, along with the two Republican candidates — retired police officer Tony Moreno and small business owner Thomas West — all attended a mayoral forum hosted by the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Pittsburgh at the Northside Institutional Church of God. The primary election is May 20.

Each candidate was allotted 15 minutes each to answer a series of questions ranging from affordable housing and city finances to public safety and President Donald Trump.

During his time, Mr. Gainey touted his record as mayor, citing the decrease in homicides the city has seen and the increased focus on building affordable housing.
