RI Board of Elections practicing election safety

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Between suspicious letters sent to election offices around the country last week and former President Donald Trump survived two attempted assassinations, election safety is top of mind.

“I am concerned about the safety of the candidates,” said New Bedford resident, Lisa Peck. “I am concerned about the tone and the toxicity.”

Last week, several suspicious letters were delivered to election offices across the country, including here in Rhode Island.

“An employee did not recognize the piece of mail that had come in as one that was suspicious. So she did open it but as soon as she opened the top slot, she realized it matched the description of the alert that was received from the fusion center,” said Rhode Island Board of Elections Executive Director, Miguel Nunez.
