South Carolina State University Interim President Alexander Conyers was alarmed when U.S. Rep. James Clyburn called him around 11 p.m. last Thursday and said he had changed his mind about speaking at the school's graduation ceremony.
Speaking at a news conference Wednesday, Conyers said the Democratic congressman told him, "I just don't think I'll be a great commencement speaker."
"Now I am thinking, 'Congressman, this is Thursday. Graduation is a week from now,'" Conyers said.
"I would like to offer up the president," Conyers recalled Clyburn then saying.

He can take his message to everyone.
Democracy is in danger, and he needs to make that clear to the American people.
Televised "fire side chats", too. A lot of talk is made of messaging. The state we're in right now
offers a perfect opportunity.
