A South Carolina man was killed Monday when he triggered a booby trap while checking on a vacant Midlands home, according to the Calhoun County Sheriffs Office.
Jordan Dove, a 34-year-old Lugoff resident, is the man who was shot, the sheriffs office said in a news release. Deputies found Dove at a Chickadee Circle home in St. Matthews suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the release. EMS took Dove to an area hospital where he later died, the sheriffs office said.
Sheriff Thomas Summer said that Dove was shot while checking on a vacant home that belonged to a relative. Deputies determined the shot was fired from inside the home, according to the release.
The deputies believed the house had been booby trapped, the sheriffs office said. They cautiously set up a perimeter around the home and slowly went inside, where they discovered a shotgun that was rigged at the back door to go off once anyone entered, according to the release. The shotgun was dismantled from the trap and deputies processed the crime scene, the sheriffs office said.
{snip}
The sheriffs office said the investigation is still very active, and if anyone has information about the shooting theyre asked to call 803-874-2741, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.

(15,444 posts)3. The victim was the nephew related
to the man who rigged it. He is in jail, and now charged with homicide. The intended targets were police officers who were going to search the home.
ironically, he is in prison for shooting 3 other family members.
