KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) Demolition of a Knoxville home considered the biggest single-family home in the state is set to begin this week, months after the contents of the sprawling estate were put up for auction.
The massive home on the banks of the Tennessee River known as Villa Collina is scheduled to be demolished this week before being split into three land lots. A demolition permit was issued earlier this year. ... In January, paperwork filed for permitting showed the price tag for the upcoming demolition project: $147,652.00. Constructed between 1993 and 2000, Villa Collina is located at 5628 Lyons View Pike in Knoxville. The 40,250-square-foot waterfront mansion on Fort Loudoun Lake, which auctioneers said in November was sold for $6.5 million, is the 84th largest home in the country. The house includes more than 80 rooms with eight bedrooms, 11 full bathrooms, three-story library, 2,600-square-foot wine cellar, 11 fireplaces, indoor and outdoor pools, six-car garage, and guest and staff quarters.
A records check indicates the property was purchased by Resolution Systems, LLC in October 2020 from the former holder, Villa Collina, LLC for $10.5 million. Last fall, in October 2021 LView Properties, LLC bought the property for $6.5 million.

Demolition of Knoxville's most extravagant, over-the-top mansion begins Monday. ... The teardown of the 40,000-square-foot, 86-room Villa Collina is just contingent on the Knoxville Utilities Board making sure all gas lines are empty, Sharon Bailey, a broker and representative of the property owners, told Knox News. ... Bailey said once started, the process will take several days. Total Demolition Services is leading the work.
The property, located at 5628 Lyons View Pike, was purchased by LView Properties LLC for $6.5 million last October, according to Knox County property records.

(6,329 posts)Truly over the top, but I will sort of miss it. It actually made a very good event space.
An artist friend painted some of the ceilings and maybe some frescoes. Wonder if those will be saved.

(5,282 posts)This home is in a certified high value mansion area. I live close by, (in an older mixed neighborhood of new and older homes... I live in a small old house) and would drive by this mansion all the time. IMO these developers have a network scheme going on and they are gobbling up everything in this area. The sale prices are deceiving. The little house next to mine on a couple of acres just sold for 400K. A developer bought it but installed a paid resident there. I am sad because there is a discrepancy on our common property boundaries, this developer took over a portion of what I thought was my property. It was full of wildlife, and they bulldozed it down. I consulted an attorney regarding the property lines and sadly, he is not responding to my calls.
