DUers, check in please.
My daughter, ittybdiddy, who rarely posts, tells me they are safe on their hilltop but can't get out of their subdivision. They're pretty sure their property in Greene County, which they haven't yet built on, is safe as it's mostly on a hill too, but they're worried about some of their neighbors. Bodies are being fished out of the Nolichucky River about 5-7 miles from there. It's hell on earth in much of the area. The Greene County pump station was flooded to the rooftop last night and thousands are without power. If you're praying folks, pray to whatever gods you pray to, or the universe, or whatever. This is bad.

(20,560 posts)Some humans have been egregiously less exemplary stewards of the earth and all she contains.
What's transpiring around the globe is only going to worsen. From the acts of self-serving, negative happenings will occur. Pollution, bloodshed, greed, avarice, hatred, lies, autocracy, destruction....

If yes, why allow this storm and wars and holocausts and three-year-old kids dying of cancer?

Prayers up for everyone affected, for strength in the body, heart and mind, for friends and loved ones neighbors and strangers to lift up their communities and help each ither survive and rise. For their leaders to serve wisely and be of use making shelter and food available. For the deep spirit of resilience to root and grow, for peace for the dead and grieving, for healing for the ill and injured. For love to win. Aloha kekahi i ke kahi. Also for folks in the South to find a path toward receiving renewable energy education in their communities and effective climate remediation starting now so the planetʻs creatures and the people can live.

(223,383 posts)She went to college (she's now an R.N.) in Western NC, met her husband in college and they eventually moved to Eastern Tennessee since that's where he was from. They now have a daughter. I've been thinking about them tonight - though she wouldn't have been better off if she'd remained in NC, this entire area is under water.

(1,073 posts)I should probably call them. Should be ok though, they live literally on top of a mountain.

(10,989 posts)if you're thinking of the Nolichucky Dam. There were rumors, but it's okay, The nearby bridge had all the dirt and stuff by the pilings washed away, but it's okay for now too, though it may be closed for the time being.

(531 posts)I am in the Tri-Cities in NE Tn. Where I live, no bad flooding. Within 20 miles in any direction, it is devastating. We have several TVA dams in this area. They have held, thankfully. The only problem that I had personally was several downed trees in the road in my neighborhood and I had to 4 wheel through the neighbor's yards.

(11,500 posts)In Greene county. We have no water but have electricity and Internet service.
My Internet, along with my landline, was down Friday night and came back Saturday morning. I then realized I had a message on my landline. It was from Friday morning.
It was from the sheriff's department telling me that everyone down river from the Nolichucky Dam should evacuate. I'm 12 miles down river from the Nolichucky dam. Well, that would have been good to know 24 hours earlier.
Anyway, my place is safe. Half of East Tennessee would have to flood before water would lap at my foundation.
Despite not having water, I'm thankful I didn't suffer like some other folks did.

(10,989 posts)I'm pretty thankful they haven't built on it yet! Although their building site is way up on a hill, they probably wouldn't have been able to get in or out. I've been there and I'm pretty sure the road is/was underwater.
She found out a couple of days ago that two of the bodies fished out of the river were the woman who drove the van to her high school in Knoxville and the woman's husband. She's pretty upset.
Glad you are safe, and thanks for checking in!
