Related: About this forumEditorial: We recommend Mike Collier for Texas lieutenant governor
The Texas Lt. Governor actually has far more power than the Texas Governor. The Lt. Governor is in control of the Texas Senate and can control a great deal. I have been on a panel with Mike and he is a good man

Mike Collier wont just promise to lower your property tax bill, hell tell you how hes going to do it. And if you dont quite understand all the math and jargony tax code talk, the affable certified public accountant and longtime consultant for investors in the energy industry will make it real simple with a few water bottles or any other props within his grasp.
Thats what he did during his screening with the editorial board last week. When our furrowed brows apparently belied some confusion about the particular loophole he claims is the holy grail to Texas tax relief, the candidate for lieutenant governor grabbed one water bottle that represented a skyscraper in a thriving, highly developed part of town thats worth $500 million, and another bottle that represented a skyscraper in a run-down, lower-end part of town a few miles away thats worth $200 million.....

This is full of people paying high rents and is very valuable property, he says lifting one water bottle. This is very different, he says lifting the other, Its in a part of town where the values are not nearly as high, its only half full and its less valuable.

Dan Patrick is a disgusting asshole and we need to replace him with Mike

OP
I'm glad he left the Republican Party. He may have swing appeal on the GOP side

(8,043 posts)1. I'm glad he left the Republican Party. He may have swing appeal on the GOP side
But I doubt they know that he used to be one of them.

(22,757 posts)2. since he has run as a Democrat for state wide office since 2014
and wasn't a public figure before that, I doubt it is well known he was once a Republican.
I really like him! He can make the most boring dry subject entertaining and understanding!
I hope Beto has wide coattails.
A number of State Senators are backing Mike because they hate Dan Patrick. Our county judge has endorsed him
