Texas Monthly has an eye-popping 👀, not-to-be-missed, investigative reporting piece by a senior editor, Forrest Wilder, a Class of '99 Wimberley High School graduate.

The news story centers on Wimberley ISD and local elected officials, a secretive plan, and the current and former school superintendent, but it has implications for the upcoming Legislative session, the entire state of Texas and our public school systems.
It wouldn't surprise me to find there may be other related efforts going on in other states if they happen to have laws like the one that let this happen.

(3,271 posts)They were trying to set something up without the community the school district serves (my town) knowing anything about it.
Sort of a shell company to satisfy the state that the kids were getting an education while not providing any direct educational services to the students. They'd send all of the kids to other schools across the state.
It seems ludicrous but the plan was voted on by the school board. Luckily it failed. But until today, it seems no one in the community at large knew anything about it.
They hoped they'd force the hand of the Legislature to make it more likely that school vouchers would finally pass.
Mind-boggling. One of the local players is someone I've liked in spite of his RW ideas. We'd managed to stay fond of each other. He has some endearing qualities. He supports my favorite charity financially. It's a small town, relationships can be rich because many of us have known one another over decades and have had some good experiences together. Made me sad that he was involved.
