Mike Collier sends cease-and-desist letter over latest Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick election ad

Democratic lieutenant governor nominee Mike Collier fired off a cease-and-desist letter Monday in response to the latest campaign ad from Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, calling it “fabricated out of whole cloth.”

Patrick’s latest attack ad makes several uncited claims against Collier. Among them: Collier supports open borders, would dismantle Immigration and Customs Enforcement, wants to ban charter schools and he supports the Green New Deal.

Collier’s attorney Michael Patrick Doyle sent a four-page cease-and-desist letter to television stations running the ad demanding that they either force Patrick’s campaign to provide citations for the claims or cease running the ads altogether. Doyle’s letter cites Federal Communications Commission regulations on deceptive advertising.

Doyle said the lack of any citations in the ads “points to the actually insupportable basis for the advertised claims,” the letter states, calling on the stations to demand citations or refuse Patrick’s advertising dollars.
