Youngkin drops out of first debate against McAuliffe

Glenn Youngkin not participating in gubernatorial debate in Hot Springs, agrees to three others

A Virginia tradition dating back more than 35 years will not be happening this election season.

For the first time since 1985, the Virginia Bar Association will not be hosting a debate between Virginia’s gubernatorial candidates.

On Monday, Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin announced that while he is willing to take part in three debates with Democratic candidate, former Gov. Terry McAuliffe, the one historically hosted by the VBA will not be one of them.

The VBA-hosted debate dates back to 1985, meaning this year’s debate would have been the 10th-consecutive one hosted by the organization.

Email from McAuliffe camp:

The news just broke: Youngkin is dropping out of next week’s debate. Every gubernatorial candidate since 1985 has participated in this debate. It’s pathetic that Glenn doesn't have the courage to meet me on stage and talk about the issues.

Last week, after months of hiding his real right-wing agenda from Virginia voters, a secret tape leaked where Glenn Youngkin admits he’ll ban abortion and defund Planned Parenthood if elected.

What else is he hiding? Why won’t he stand in front of Virginia voters and state his beliefs plainly? He’d rather hide behind his vague TV ads and Fox News appearances. It’s clear that Youngkin’s real policies are far too radical for Virginia voters.

"Unfortunately, the VBA refused to dedicate a portion of the debate to a discussion on Virginia’s economy and jobs, which proved to be an insurmountable barrier in our negotiations. It would also be a conflict of interest to have former Clinton Foundation board member Terry McAuliffe being 'questioned' by a Clinton Foundation donor."

In other words, he's a chicken. And the Trumpy "Wah wah Clinton Foundation" crap will not play well in NOVA.

His commercials are empty rhetoric, not an issue anywhere to be found.
